The Ultimate Hack for Student Birthdays
It's another week of the 'There's a Hack for That' series!
Today's hack? Student birthdays.
Student birthdays are one of those things that I think we teachers have over-complicated in the past 10-15 years.
I mean, when I was a kid, I'm pretty sure my teacher just said 'Happy Birthday' to me, and that was great. I don't know when teachers began giving gifts to their students, but it definitely was not always the case.
And I'm not complaining. I love a reason to celebrate and make my students feel special!
But, I'm not the only one responsible for making a birthday kid feel noticed and cared for on their special day. That responsibility belongs to my entire class.
So, how can you make birthdays a class-wide job, as opposed to it being only on your shoulders to source and buy birthday trinkets and treats?
I'm here to tell you!
Tune into today's show to hear all about how I got myself into a cupcake mess during my first year of teaching. how I turned birthday celebrations over to my students, and what I have crowned 'Simple Classroom Principle #1"!
